Published Works
Over 2011 working at He Kupenga I have been involved in the design to publication of three maths books, laying up the content, exercises, resources and working one-on-one with our editor. The resulting copy is nicely balanced, easy to read, and makes the most of white space. I needed an eye for detail as things got tweaked a lot. This meant though that the print was a pleasure to thumb through when I got it home.
Designing in a Different Language
The work that I do at He Kupenga is completely in te Reo Māori. This was initially a challenge for me as I am used to reading content as I design, to double check for errors and context. I'd love to say I've learnt some of the language by osmosis but unfortunately it's more complex than that. I really enjoy reading and hearing Māori in the office, it's a very lyrical language, and I wish I'd gotten more out of school when I had the option.
